Guatemalan - Prized Collection
Guatemala Huehuetenango is a premium, single-origin coffee grown in the country's highest and driest non-volcanic region. Cultivated at altitudes up to 2,000 meters, the beans develop a highly complex, sugary sweetness. It is celebrated for tasting notes of caramel, milk chocolate, and bright citrus with a smooth, balanced body.
Key Characteristics
Flavor Profile: Notes of milk chocolate, caramel, cane sugar, and apricot, complemented by a tangy, winey, or orange-like acidity.
Aroma: Sweet, floral, and nutty.
Body & Finish: Full, rich, and syrupy, often described as having a buttery or toasted finish.
Growing Altitude: 1,400 to 2,000 meters above sea level.
Why the Terroir is Unique
Unlike other major coffee-producing regions in Guatemala, Huehuetenango is not volcanic. It is cultivated in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes mountain range on limestone-rich soils. The region is protected from frost by hot, dry winds blowing in from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain. This stable microclimate allows the coffee cherries to mature slowly, which concentrates complex natural sugars and results in a uniquely clean and sweet cup.
How to Enjoy
Because of its balanced body and vibrant acidity, Huehuetenango coffee performs exceptionally well across various brewing methods. It is a crowd-pleaser as a pour-over or drip coffee, but the inherent chocolate and caramel notes also make it a fantastic choice for espresso or for pairing with steamed milk.
